One Veterinarian's Dream, One Team's Mission
Our Story
Late one night in 2019, Dr. Sarah Chen, a veterinarian at her clinic in Montana, was handling her third emergency dystocia case caused by miscalculated due dates. At that moment, she realized: despite all our modern technology, many farmers and pet owners still relied on outdated paper calendars and rough estimates.
As a second-generation Chinese-American who grew up on a farm, Sarah understood the critical importance of precise gestation management for animal health and farm economics. Her parents ran a small dairy farm, and she grew up watching her father mark breeding dates on calendars and calculate due dates with a pencil. Sometimes, a single day's error could mean the difference between life and death for a calf.
After that late night, Sarah embarked on an ambitious project: creating a free, easy-to-use animal gestation calculator based on the latest scientific research. She reached out to her classmates from Cornell's College of Veterinary Medicine—software engineer Marcus Rodriguez and data scientist Aisha Patel. The three of them spent weekends and late nights over coffee, transforming data from hundreds of research papers into algorithms.
From Idea to Reality
In 2020, we launched our first version—just a cattle calculator. The response exceeded our wildest expectations. Farmers from around the world sent thank-you letters, sharing how this tool helped them avoid losses and save animal lives.
A farmer from Kenya told us the calculator helped his small farm improve calf survival rates by 20%. A pet owner from Japan said her dog received timely veterinary care thanks to accurate due date predictions. These stories motivated us to keep expanding.
Between 2021-2024, we added calculators for dogs, goats, sheep, horses, and pigs. Each new animal species meant months of literature review, data validation, and user testing. Our small team grew into an international team of 15 veterinarians, engineers, and researchers.
Our Team
Today, gestation-calculator.com is operated by a passionate international team:
- •Dr. Sarah Chen - Founder & Chief Veterinary Advisor, specializing in large animal reproduction
- •Marcus Rodriguez - CTO, former Google engineer
- •Aisha Patel - Head of Data Science, focused on predictive model optimization
- •12 Veterinary Advisors - From 6 countries, covering various animal specialties
Our team members are distributed across the United States, China, Kenya, India, Brazil, and Australia. We speak different languages but share one belief: technology should serve life.
Scientific Rigor
Every data point comes from peer-reviewed scientific research. We partner with institutions like Montana State University, Purdue University, and Cornell University to ensure our algorithms are always based on the latest scientific discoveries. As of 2025, our database includes research from 37 authoritative sources.
Looking Forward
Our dream continues. In 2025, we're developing a mobile app, multiple pregnancy prediction features, and integration with veterinary clinic systems. We also plan to add more animal species, including rabbits, alpacas, and camels.
But no matter how much we grow, one thing will never change: gestation-calculator.com will always be free, always science-based, and always serving those who care for animals.
Because on that late night in 2019, Sarah's promise wasn't just to create a tool—it was to ensure every life gets the best possible start.
